OET Coaching in Kochi
Pass OET and take your healthcare career abroad, with expert coaching at Study Metro Kochi. For doctors, nurses, and health professionals aiming to work or register in the UK, Australia, and beyond. Online and offline batches across Kochi and Kerala.
What Is the OET Test?
OET, the Occupational English Test, is the English test built specifically for healthcare professionals. It is accepted by medical and nursing regulators in the UK, Australia, Ireland, and more as proof of English for registration and work.
What makes OET different is that it uses real healthcare language. The listening and reading sections are common, but the writing and speaking sections are tailored to your profession, so a nurse’s test differs from a doctor’s. You practise the exact communication you already use at work, like patient conversations and referral letters.
Who Should Take This Course?
Built for healthcare professionals in Kochi and Kerala who are:
- Nurses aiming for UK (NMC) or Australia (AHPRA) registration
- Doctors working toward GMC or Medical Board registration
- Dentists, pharmacists, physiotherapists, and other health professionals moving abroad
- Health workers who prefer a test set in clinical context over general English
- Retaking OET after narrowly missing a sub-test grade
What OET Grade Do You Need?
OET grades each sub-test from A to E, with a numerical score behind it. Most healthcare regulators set the bar at Grade B, and you usually must meet it in every sub-test, not on average.
- UK nurses (NMC): Grade B in Listening, Reading, and Speaking, with C+ accepted in Writing under current rules.
- UK doctors (GMC): Grade B in all four sub-tests.
- Australia (AHPRA): Grade B in all four sub-tests, with updated numerical targets that came into effect in April 2026.
- Other bodies: the GDC (dentists), GPhC (pharmacists), and HCPC (allied health) all accept OET for registration.
Because the exact grade rules differ by regulator and change over time, our counsellors confirm your target before you start, so you train for the precise grade your registration needs.
Why Healthcare Professionals Choose OET
- It speaks your language. The tasks are clinical: patient dialogue, case notes, referral letters. Your medical background becomes an advantage.
- Widely accepted. Recognised by major regulators including the NMC, GMC, and AHPRA.
- Fast results. Computer and OET@Home results are usually available within about 6 days.
- Flexible re-sits. Many regulators now allow combining scores across sittings or re-sitting a single sub-test, which eases the pressure.
How We Help You Pass
- Profession-specific coaching. We train for your version of the test, nursing, medicine, and more, not generic English.
- Writing and speaking focus. These clinical sub-tests are where most points are lost. You get direct, personal feedback on both.
- Real test practice. Full mock tests under timed conditions, so test day feels familiar.
- Grade-target strategy. We work backward from the exact grade your regulator needs.
- Flexible batches. Online or offline, timed for busy working professionals in Kochi.
The Study Metro Kochi Method
- Fix your target grade. We confirm the exact grade your regulator needs, per sub-test.
- Build clinical English. Trained around real healthcare tasks, focused on your weak sub-tests.
- Practice and refine. Timed mock tests and feedback until you hit your grade.

Few Questions You Might Have
For NMC registration, nurses need Grade B in Listening, Reading, and Speaking. Under current rules, the NMC accepts a slightly lower C+ in Writing, though many nurses still aim for B in all four to keep a safe margin. You can meet these in one sitting or by combining scores across sittings under the NMC's rules. Our coaching targets the exact grade you need in each sub-test.
AHPRA requires Grade B in all four sub-tests for nurses, doctors, and most professions. Note that AHPRA updated its scoring to stricter numerical targets from April 2026, so some sub-tests now need a higher mark within the B band. Because this is a recent change, we confirm your current exact target in your consultation before you plan your test.
For most healthcare workers, OET is the more natural fit. It uses real clinical situations, patient conversations, case notes, and referral letters, so your medical background works in your favour. IELTS is a general academic test with no healthcare context. Both are accepted by many regulators, so the best choice depends on your goal, which we help you decide.
OET is accepted by major healthcare regulators including the UK's NMC (nurses), GMC (doctors), GDC (dentists), GPhC (pharmacists), and HCPC (allied health), plus AHPRA in Australia. It is also recognised in Ireland, New Zealand, and increasingly in the USA and Canada for healthcare registration. Most NHS employers in the UK accept it too.
Each of the four sub-tests, Listening, Reading, Writing, and Speaking, is scored from 0 to 500 and mapped to a grade from A to E. A Grade B generally starts at 350. Most regulators require you to meet the minimum grade in every sub-test, not just on average, so one weak area can hold up your registration.
OET results are usually available within about 6 days for the computer-based and OET@Home versions, and within roughly 12 business days for the paper-based test. This is faster than many other options, which helps when your registration timeline is tight.
In many cases, yes. Several regulators now allow you to combine scores across two sittings or re-sit a single sub-test, rather than passing all four at once. This is a big advantage if you are strong in three sub-tests but just missed the grade in one. We focus your prep on that exact weak sub-test so your re-sit lands the grade.
For most healthcare professionals, Writing and Speaking are the toughest, because they are graded on clinical communication, not just correct English. Writing a clear referral letter or handling a patient role-play takes practice in the OET format. This is exactly why our coaching gives you personal feedback on both.
Yes. We run both online and offline batches, so you can prepare around your hospital or clinic shifts. Online classes include the same profession-specific practice, mock tests, and personal feedback as our in-person sessions in Kochi.
